Turmeric, Ground
Turmeric root is a member of the ginger family and is used for its flavor as well as its color. This rhizome is usually used as a dry powder, but if you look hard enough you can still find it in its fresh form. For thousands of years natives of India used turmeric as a dying agent which produces an exquisite golden orange color.

Turmeric can replace the golden color provided by saffron in many dishes, but won't replace the exquisite flavor! Turmeric’s flavor is bitter, astringent and pungent. Ground turmeric is an important ingredient to ras el hanout, many curry powders, pastes and masalas. Adds a subtle flavor and color to vegetables, bean and rice dishes. We grind our turmeric in small batches weekly to ensure freshness.

Tumeric is native to South Asia.
