More Information
Are paprika and chile peppers the same?
Paprika is made from mild chile peppers. So all paprikas come from chiles, but all chiles are not paprika. So, sort of!
Are all paprikas the same?
Paprika has a slightly different flavor depending on where it comes from and what variety it is. Spanish paprika is hot & smoky, California paprika is sweet with a slight kick, and Hungarian paprika is more sweet with very subtle spice. Depending on what you prefer, paprikas can mostly be used in recipes interchangeably. For example, if the recipe needs some smoky, spicy heat, use Spanish paprika.
What is the best paprika?
The best paprikas have bold flavor. Your paprika should have a pleasant, mildly warm scent as well as a red color. If it doesn't have much smell, it doesn't have much flavor.
Can you tell me where to buy paprika?
You can find most paprikas at local spice shops, grocery stores or with online spice stores. We carry Hungarian Paprika, Hot Paprika, California Paprika and smoked paprika blends, like Smoked Spanish Sweet Paprika. You can find our full line both online and in stores.
