Sourcing Practices
For nearly two decades, Savory Spice has sourced the highest quality herbs & spices from around the globe. We use only the best spices to create our iconic seasonings.
You can shop with confidence knowing that our suppliers adhere to all import regulations, testing requirements, and American Spice Trade Association guidelines. These include ensuring spices meet federal regulatory requirements for safety and cleanliness, conducting environmental monitoring, and preventing product adulteration.
From California to Uganda
Spices are, by nature, global. While some, like our Hatch Green Chile Powder are native to the Americas, most come from around the world. Our Black Malabar Pepper comes from the Malabar Coast of India, Ground Sumac from the Middle East, and Ugandan Vanilla Beans from their namesake country.
From our California-grown Granulated Garlic to our Ugandan Vanilla, our suppliers are carefully selected for their premium quality, as well as social responsibility and sustainability practices. Whenever possible, we find opportunities to support family businesses and partner with community suppliers around the globe.
Partners in Kampala, Uganda, employ locals, building a sustainable economy and providing fair wages. The beans come from over 700 farmers who are trained to meet international standards. Our high-quality Saffron from Taliouine, Morocco is another example of this partnership.
Supporting International Co-Ops
One of our small international suppliers, Tiffout Saffron, partners with an organic-certified co-op of farmers in Morocco. These small farms provide the freshest saffron threads on the market. This co-op harvests saffron crocuses each October at tifout, "the first light of dawn."
Profits go to the women who harvest the saffron and help to cover essential everyday costs, providing for their children's education, and assisting with costs for Eid Al-Adha, "the feast of the sacrifice," where lamb is an expensive, essential cost.
This co-op also operates a non-profit called "Hands of Mercy" that covers otherwise unattainable medical operations and provides funds that allow those who have fallen on hard times to keep their homes.
Promoting Sustainability
We are proud to carry a line of sustainably-harvested and responsibly processed premium sea salts. Saltverk is an Icelandic company that uses centuries-old methods to sustainably harvest and minimally process pure Icelandic sea salt.
This flaky, hand-harvested salt is wonderful on its own, but they have also infused traditional Nordic flavors, like arctic thyme, into some of their pure sea salt. These unique, premium salts are easy to enjoy.
The production process, which relies exclusively on geothermal energy, produces zero carbon emissions. Saltverk's sustainability efforts minimize the impact of sea salt harvesting on the surrounding environment, ensuring the longevity of this natural resource.
Recyclable Packaging
We primarily package our spices in glass jars and encourage customers to reuse them whenever possible. Our 1/2 cup bags are great for refilling your existing spice jars.
Our glass spice jars, extract bottles, and sauce bottles are all recyclable, as is our cardboard Spice Set packaging.
Our spice bags (from 1/2 cup to 3 cup sizes) are made with recycled kraft paper and BPA-free, recyclable plastic.
