Recipe By Savory Spice—South End/Charlotte, NC

Featuring our Vanilla Bean Sugar and cherry extract, this is a flavorful front porch sipper named after a North Carolina mountain famous for its moonshine history.

Serving Suggestions

Pour over ice to serve. Garnish each glass with 1 or 2 of the cherries, for the look and for a little cherry pickin’ at the end.

Recipe Notes

*Moonshine is widely available in liquor stores, but vodka will work as a substitute. For a Chocolate Cherry Moonshine, substitute Vanilla Bean Sugar with our Black Onyx Chocolate Sugar. Almond extract can be used in place of cherry extract, and fresh cherries can be used in place of frozen.

Ingredients

2 cups apple cider or apple juice

1/4 cup moonshine*

Directions

Whisk juice and sugar together in a small saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil and let it simmer for about 5 min. Remove from heat, stir in extract and allow mixture to cool. Strain into a 2-cup sealable jar and add moonshine and cherries. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before enjoying; it gets even better as it ages.
