Seasonings for Seafood
When you think about BBQ & Grilling, it's possible that the first things that come to mind are beef burgers or chicken legs or pork ribs. But don't forget about seafood. From shrimp skewers to cedar plank grilled salmon, some fantastic grilled meals start with seafood. We’re highlighting some of our favorite flavors for grilling seafood. So, let's fire up the grill and dive in.
Pyramid Peak Lemon Pepper
The marriage of citrus and pepper is a classic combination. We've kicked it up a notch with a few twists and added ingredients. To learn more, go Behind the Seasoning. This blend is good on just about everything from seafood to desserts (Yes, really! We even have a recipe for Tangy Lemon Bars that features this as a surprise ingredient.)
For those who are watching their sodium, we carry a salt-free version inspired by this classic blend: Citrus Pepper Seasoning.
Cherry Creek Seafood Seasoning
We’ve taken the traditional combination of lemon and pepper and added a sweet herbal twist to come up with this exciting all-purpose seafood seasoning. With dill as a featured flavor, this blend is nice on many types of fish including halibut, salmon, swordfish, and trout. You can also enjoy it on chicken, duck, and vegetables.
Pearl St. Plank Salmon Rub
We call this a plank rub because it was created with cedar plank salmon in mind. The balance of sweet, smoky, and a hint of chile heat is the idea complement to the distinctive flavor of salmon. Side note: in case you're wondering, the name is a nod to our Boulder store, which is where this now popular seasoning was created. Don't stop with salmon though, this seasoning is also great on scallops and shrimp as well as pork and poultry, even sweet potatoes and other veggies.
Recipes
If you want to use any of our seafood seasonings as just a basic rub for your seafood, we suggest starting with 1 Tbsp. per pound. To get a little extra flavor boost, add the seasoning before you start the grill. That way, the seasoning has a little bit of extra time to meld into the protein before it hits the grill.
Citrus Marinated Shrimp Skewers
These couldn’t be easier! We call them shrimp skewers but the quick and easy marinade can be used for other summer skewers as well, like chicken, veggie, scallop...so get creative! Serve hot off the grill or let cool and add to a summer salad.
Lemon Pepper Grilled Trout
If you're headed out to your favorite stream in the summer, pack some Pyramid Peak Lemon Pepper to season your catch of the day. For a camping-friendly version, mix up the glaze ingredients ahead of time and transport them in a zip top bag.
Cherry Creek Vinaigrette
In a bottle, combine 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar with 2/3 cup olive oil and 1 tsp. of Cherry Creek Seasoning. Cap and shake vigorously. For a more robust flavor, add more seasoning a ½ tsp. at a time to taste. Dress salad greens, roasted veggies, and more.
Pearl Street Cedar Plank Salmon
Salmon gets an upgrade with sweet and smoky Pearl St. Plank Salmon Rub and a hint of wood smoke from a Cedar Grilling Plank. It's delicious with a side of grilled asparagus. Quick tip: Make sure your cedar plank is thoroughly soaked in water before using. Although burning is uncommon, it is helpful to keep a bottle of water nearby to put out any fire that may start on the plank.
