No tahini in the house? No problem! This recipe creatively uses sesame seeds to get that classic tahini flavor into a truly simple and very savory hummus.

Serving Suggestions

Top (but do not mix in) with favorite salsa, chopped olives, bruschetta, sundried tomatoes, pine nuts, pomegranate seeds, or a mixture of paprika and Za'Atar Seasoning. Serve with pita chips, flat bread, pita bread, veggies, etc.

Recipe Notes

*You can use toasted sesame seeds and ground cumin instead, but we like the flavor impact of toasting and grinding the seeds fresh.

Ingredients

2 (15 oz.) cans garbanzo beans, drained

1 to 3 cloves garlic, chopped

juice of 1 large lemon

1/4 cup water

1 to 2 Tbsp. olive oil

Directions

Toast White Sesame Seeds and Cumin Seeds together in a small skillet over medium heat for 1 to 3 min. or until fragrant. Immediately transfer to a food processer or blender. Blend to desired consistency; pulse just a few times for a coarse grind, or for 30 seconds or so for a finer texture. Add garbanzo beans, garlic, lemon juice and water and blend until smooth. With blender running, slowly drizzle in oil until hummus reaches desired consistency. Sprinkle with Sumac and a drizzle of olive oil just before serving. Store in the refrigerator and use with a week or so.
